The host selection of O. fasciatus is based on typical glycosides sequestered from the Asclepiadaceae. Neither the genins — characterised as 15-oxasteroids — nor the sugars are phagostimulants. After the passage through the insect the glycosides exhibit their biological activity furtheron.
