Abstract
Surgical preparation of an intra-abdominal reservoir following ileostomy is described in patients treated for ulcerative colitis, familial polyposis and other inflammatory bowel diseases. Common complications and contraindications of continent ileostomy are discussed including sphincter dysfunction, hemorrhage, volvulus, Crohn''s disease, ileal fistula and concurrent high steroid doses. Several postoperative mortality cases are reported due to peritonitis, infection, pulmonary emboli, perforated ulcer and hepatic failure. This publication has 32 references indexed in Scilit:
