Abstract
Many thousands of people die by their own hand in the United States each year. Because psychiatric consultation is not always immediately available, it is vital that every primary care physician understand how to assess the suicide risk of patients who hint at suicide or are severely depressed. Dr Westreich discusses risk factors and provides a paradigm for evaluating suicidal patients. Keywords
