Abstract
For complicated enzymatic mechanisms the derivation of the rate equation may be a time-consuming operation. There are some well-known procedures, such as the King-Altman method, but these procedures require dedicated computer programs. In this paper it is shown that commercial symbolic calculation packages are very convenient to derive rate equations. This requires only superficial knowledge of the programs, and no understanding of the calculation procedure. These programs may also be helpful to replace some of the groups of rate constants in the rate equation by kinetic parameters such as Vmax and Km.Keywords
