Abstract
Screening tests of crude drugs was carried out using a model system of congestive edema in rats. Some crude drugs containing saponin, i.e., Akebiae Caulis, Platycodi Radix, Polygalae Radix, and Mi-saponin (which resembles senega saponin in chemical structure) showed anti-edmatous and diuretic actions. Concomitant use of phenylbutazone with Mi-saponin resulted in an increase in urine volume and anti-edmatous action. Keywords
