Abstract

Rats when deprived of thyroid, when fed excessive amounts of it, or when undernourished show a retardation of hair growth; whereas rats thyroidectomized or undernourished and then fed on thyroid show improvement in hair growth. Therefore, in addition to the specific influence of the thyroid gland, there is perhaps also normally a certain functional optimum of this gland for the growth of hair.
