Abstract
P. nigricans grew over a wide range of pH but optimal growth was obtained at pH 2.8. The fungus seemed to be more resistant to Cu in acid media. At pH 4.6 or above, growth failed to occur in media containing 4 .times. 10-2 M copper sulfate. The fungus was tolerant to relatively high concentrations of salts of Fe, Ni, Co and Cr and growth in acid media was better than that at pH values approaching neutrality.
