Cation Contents and Superconducting Properties of the High-Tc Phase of Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O Ceramics

Abstract
Energy dispersive X-ray analysis was carried out on samples with the starting compositions of Bi1-x Pb x Sr0.8CaCu1.4O y (x=0.15, 0.20, 0.25). The Bi and Pb contents in the high-T c phase were about 80% of the starting contents. A narrow range of solid solutions exists in the Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O system. It seems that Pb does not enter the Cu or Ca site. The temperature dependence of the initial magnetization curve was measured. The slope of the curve at 100 K was lower than that at 77 K. Therefore, it seems that superconducting phases with T c's lower than 100 K exist, although these phases show the same X-ray diffraction pattern as the high-T c phase.
