Abstract
Transport and magnetic properties of Cex TaS2 have been studied. The susceptibility as a function of temperature exhibits a diverging anomaly at 2.3K and the resistivity decreases below this temperature, indicating the appearance of a magnetic ordering with a spontaneous magnetization. The dependence of the magnetization on magnetic field applied parallel to the c-axis shows the meta-magnetic phase transition at 2kOe. Above 45kOe, the magnetization seems to be saturated, but the effective magnetic moment is 0.6µB per Ce atom even at 45kOe which is quite small compared with that of the free Ce3+ ion. It is discussed whether the f-electron in this compound has the localized nature or the itinerant one. Keywords
