Use of Cyclethrin in Livestock Sprays for Control of Flies1

Abstract
Cyclethrin has been described recently by Haynes et al. (1954) as a synthetic compound having many of the attributes of natural pyrethrins. It is a straw-colored viscous liquid having a specific gravity of 1.020 (19% purity) at 20°/20°, and it is compatible with most insecticides and diluents. Cyclethrin was found to show promise against household and field insect pests wherever pyrethrins or allethrins might be used. Approximately 1.5 to 6 times as much cyclethrin was needed as pyrethrins to be effective against a variety of insects. Data indicate cyclethrin had definite advantages over allethrin; in particular it was synergized more readily with existing synergists, such as piperonyl butoxide or sulfoxide.
