Abstract
Six newborn babies presented with the clinical picture of intestinal obstruction are described. No mechanical cause for the obstruction was found in any of the cases. The obstruction was associated with peritonitis and perforation of the intestinal tract in five cases and localized gangrenous enteritis in one. In two cases of colonic perforation, the responsible organism was thought to be a fungus. It is thought that perinatal sepsis is the underlying cause for the intestinal gangrene. Keywords
