Abstract
Water-cooled electromagnets producing magnetic fields of hundreds of kilogauss and consuming many megawatts of power may be energised for periods as long as several minutes by the 500 MJ Canberra homopolar generator and cooled by a unique cooling-water system employing compressed air. The system is automated and power is controlled by a variable-resistor circuit breaker and high-capacity isolators. Keywords
