A leafminer of apple, Lithocolletis blancardella F., has 3 generations/year in southwestern Michigan apple orchards. Apanteles ornigis Weed, Sympiesis conica (Provancher), S. marylandensis Girault, and Pnigalio flavipes (Ashmead) are natural enemies of leafminer larvae. Total leaf area can be reduced 32% by leafmining larvae. Many broad spectrum and systemic insecticides effectively control this leafminer and certain carbamate and organophosphate insecticides cause a significant reduction in parasitism of the larvae.
