Abstract
iCAR is a new wireless architecture based on the integration of cellular and modern ad-hoc relaying technologies. We analyze its performance and compare it with conventional cellular system. In particular, we prove that due to the ability of ad-hoc relay stations (ARS) to relay traffic from one cell to another cell dynamically. iCAR has a lower system-wide call blocking probability than any corresponding cellular system without ARS, even if traffic can be evenly distributed among cells. We also study two typical scenarios and present some numeric results. Keywords
