Abstract
The localization of .alpha.-fetoprotein (.alpha.-FP) and the proliferative activity of hepatocytes were studied after insignificant liver damage. On the 3rd-6th day after the operation, .alpha.-FP was detectable in hepatocytes localized on the boundary with the damage zone. The most intensely stained cells were found adjacent to some vessels lying near this zone. The overwhelming majority of .alpha.-FP-containing hepatocytes did not incorporate 3H-thymidine. The synthesis of .alpha.-FP is not related to cell proliferation. Keywords
