Abstract
The pressure field generated by the impact of a rigid or flexible body on the surface of an inviscid, compressible fluid is considered. Some general results for the forces generated by the impact are given. Pressure distributions for rigid wedges are computed from known analogous solutions of linearized supersonic airfoil theory. In the impact problem, the transition from compressible to incompressible behavior is demonstrated as the velocity of impact is reduced. Keywords
