Abstract
Modeling of wind over water can provide a useful tool in dealing with the nearshore and offshore environment where the wind stress plays a dominant role. The available field and laboratory information on shear stress coefficients is reviewed with emphasis on differences between field and laboratory conditions. Modeling relationships are proposed for the wind and the wind generated current. The procedure is applied to a laboratory model of a lagoon in the Atlantic trade wind region. Alteration of the physical boundaries produced a significant change in the wind induced circulation. The change in water circulation was used to predict the increase in the temperature of water used for cooling purposes. Keywords
