ANALYSIS OF CORN SEEDS FOR FUNGI AND MYCOTOXINS

Abstract
A corn seed lot which had been overwintered in the field prior to storage and rejected as unsuitable for feed by sight inspection had less than 0.02 μg/g aflatoxins and less than 0.2 μg/g zearalenone. Aspergillus flavus and Fusarium graminearum, the presumptive producers of these toxins, were also isolated at low levels. Other potentially toxigenic fungi were recovered but analyses for several additional mycotoxins were negative.
