Abstract
A growing number of environmental education organizations use outdoor adventure activities as part of their curriculum. Many of these activities can be fear-provoking and exert a tremendous influence upon the individual. These fears are both environmentally and socio/psychologically based and can be modified through participation in adventure activities. This paper describes the construct of fear, its use in outdoor environmental programs, and the results of two recent studies on fear. Keywords
