Abstract
13C chemical shifts of tetramethylsilane (TMS) have been determined at infinite dilution in 16 solvents. As compared to the respective proton shifts, their magnitude is much higher and anisotropic shifts are of less significance. This is being discussed in view of the increasing use of TMS as 13C reference compound. 13C‐cyclohexane is shown to be a much better choice for internal standardization. Regarding the various 13C detection techniques, general use of external standardization and susceptibility correction is recommended in 13C medium shift studies. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
