Abstract
A novel shorted patch antenna with a shorted parasitic patch for dual‐band operation is proposed. The upper and lower operating frequencies are, respectively, controlled by the driven and parasitic patches, which are both operated as a quarter‐wavelength structure in the proposed design. A prototype of the proposed design for achieving dual ISM‐band operation at 2.45 and 5.8 GHz has also been implemented. The constructed prototype occupies a small volume of 5×9×20 mm3, and good antenna gain for the two operating bands has been obtained. Details of the proposed design and the experimental results of the constructed prototype are presented. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 32: 79–80, 2002.Keywords
