Abstract
An equation is developed for the alternating component in the electrode potential of a hydrogen electrode exposed to acoustical radiations. According to these calculations, the effect is of the magnitude 10−2 volt for acoustical waves with a pressure amplitude of 0.1 atmos. The hydrogen electrode should prove very useful as a means for absolute measurements of pressure amplitude as well as the detection of underwater sound.
