Direct Oxidation of Organoboranes with Oxygen in Perfluoroalkanes

Abstract

Diethylorganoboranes obtained by the hydroboration of alkenes with Et₂BH are cleanly oxidized with oxygen in bromoperfluorooctane in good yields. Remarkably, the oxidation of secondary alkylboranes proceeds under these conditions with retention of configuration.
