Abstract
To assess the value of the free electron gas exchange approximation, based on Slater’s local approximation of exchange, we compare the test cases the results given by the exact formula with results given by modified formulae reviewed by Riley and Truhlar [J. Chem. Phys. 63, 2182 (1975)]. The exact formula is not superior and therefore we favor the semiclassical exchange approximation which performs well even for scattering lengths. Keywords
