Abstract
When inanition with its loss in body weight is produced by thiamine deficiency, greater intakes of this vitamin produce a sparing influence on body tissue catabolism. The mechanism of such action is not clear from the data submitted; it is suggested that this may be associated with the role thiamine plays in intermediate carbohydrate metabolism. Keywords
