Hyperhydration and Parotid Flow in Man

Abstract
Parotid fluid was collected without exogenous stimulation from 5 groups of 25 subjects each. Each group received a different amount of water under conditions of forced ingestion. The increase in parotid flow rate due to water ingestion was highly significant. Doses of 1000 ml or more significantly increased the flow rate in samples collected 15-60 min. post-ingestion. Overloading the tissues with water probably exerts no effect on the salivary flow rates.
