Cosmic string networks

Statistical properties of $Z_2$ and $Z_3$ strings produced at a phase transition in the early Universe are studied using a Monte Carlo simulation. The results for $Z_2$ strings are in agreement with the results obtained by Kibble using a different method. For $Z_3$ strings it is shown that the system is dominated by one infinite network of Brownian strings.
