Abstract
Stainless steel specimens have been coated with Teflon to produce nonwetted surfaces. The data indicate improved pool boiling heat transfer with a 0.0003-in. coating as compared to an uncoated specimen. However, thicker coatings were found to insulate the surface and impede the rate of heat transfer. Nonwetting is explained as the mechanism for enhanced heat transfer. Keywords
