Abstract
Various tissue extracts, made with glycerol, water and lipoid solvents given orally or intravenously in dogs, caused the appearance of an oxytocic substance in the spinal fluid. A similar effect was obtained upon the oral administration of histamine. Since lipoid soluble ovarian extracts known to evoke estrus were less effective than aqueous ovarian extracts devoid of estrus-inducing properties, and since extracts of other tissues were as effective as those of the ovary, the authors question Dixon''s suggestion of an ovario-pituitary mechanism as a factor in the initiation of labor. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
