Cross-modal matching by young children.

Abstract
Tested groups of 5-, 6-, and 7-yr-old children for their ability to match 2-dimensional shapes within and between the modalities of vision and touch. Matching was tested over 0-, 5-, and 30-sec delays. The rate of improvement with age in matching was not different for the 2 conditions. Overall, visual-visual matching was the easiest task, with visual-tactual, tactual-visual, and tactual-tactual matching being of approximately equal difficulty.
