Abstract
By means of microscopic measurements and averaged values, ratios between the external area of a leaf and the internally exposed areas bordering on the intercellular spaces have been obtained. Data are given for Syringa vulgaris, Vitis vulpina, Citrus limonia, Berberis nervosa and Bryophyllum calicynum. Succulents have a low ratio, mesomorphic sun leaves a high one while that of xerophytes depends on exposure to sun which increases it. Rates of transpiration and photosynthesis seem to be correlated with these internal areas. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
