Abstract
Metal analysis of Ca, Mn, Al and Cu in CNS tissue samples of degenerative CNS disease cases (6 Japanese ALS [amyotropic lateral sclerosis], 3 Japanese Alzheimer disease, 4 Guam PD [presenile dementia] and 1 Guam ALS) using neutron activation analysis was conducted. Five of 6 Japanese ALS cases, 2 of 3 Japanese Alzheimer disease cases and all 4 Guam PD cases showed a high content of Ca and Al in CNS tissue with a significant positive correlation between Ca and Al and/or Ca and Mn. A process of metal-induced soft tissue calcification with interaction of other di- and/or trivalent cations, e.g., Al and Mn in CNS tissue of these degenerative CNS diseases is possible. Keywords
