Abstract
Twenty male albino rats trained in a straight runway under a randomized schedule of 4 deprivation conditions (0, 6, 16, and 22 hrs.) showed approx. linear decreases in avg. running time as a function of increased deprivation, whether or not trials involving competing responses were included in the computations. Omission of these trials reduced the magnitude of the group trend and reversed the trend for 3. After additional experimentation 4 animals met statistical requirements of asymptotic behavior. Data for all 4 animals conformed partially to equations based upon Hull''s theory, but only 1 was in complete conformity.
