Abstract
Followed a male alcoholic transient for 2 yrs, during which he was incarcerated in 61 hospital and jail facilities at a cost of $11,543. The most costly incarcerations occurred at hospitals in large cities. An interview with the S revealed how he functionally utilized his transient life style. Considering the high cost of processing the alcoholic through the \u22revolving door,\u22 a new rehabilitation method is proposed-socialization, rather than resocialization. A final suggestion concerns the creation of \u22mini-societies\u22 specifically designed to meet the needs of the population they serveKeywords
