Abstract
This article looks at previous research on sex‐role presentation in British reading schemes and the effect of the content of the readers on children's own attitudes. Evidence of sex‐role stereotyping in two British reading schemes is presented and the author discusses the way in which such stereotyping is likely to influence the reader. Keywords
