Gel Filtration of Posterior Pituitary Hormones

Abstract
Mixtures of posterior pituitary hormones were fractionated by nitration through Sephadex gel columns. Several solvent systems and column materials are given for a successful separation of lysine vasopressin from α-MSH and of the latter from β-MSH. Oxytocin, partially purified by chromatography on carboxymethyl cellulose, can be obtained in a high state of purity by molecular sieving on dextran gels. The technique described is fast and simple and can be used with very small or very large quantities of material.
