Abstract
Quantitative collecting data showed the littoral fauna in continual movement, quickly re-colonizing artificially denuded areas and moving into areas inundated by floods. The fauna was extremely sensitive to small changes in the level of the lake and within 8 hours the more active species of Ecdyonurus, Isopteryx, and Gammarus would be found in newly flooded areas. In time the littoral fauna would completely colonize the new area, the main check on this process being the terrestrial character of particular spots. Food shortage checked the initial movement of the fauna as a mass until the appearance of algal growth. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
