Abstract
Polyarthritis in rats, as produced by injn. of pleuropueumonia-like organisms, is prevented or cured by suitable injns. of streptomycin. Infecting doses of pleuropneumonia culture may be given intraven. to rats, and nearly all the animals either die early of overwhelming infection or, as is usually the case, develop polyarthritis and die later of this disabling disease. Both early and late deaths can be prevented quite regularly by hypodermic injn. of streptomycin in doses of 1000 to 3000 U. 3 times daily for 3-4 days. This therapy appears more effective and less toxic than therapy with gold compounds. Keywords
