Abstract
Final judgment as to the etiology of pertussis not having been reached, the authors carried out transmission exps. with chimpanzees. Interpretation of results is difficult. There can be no doubt but that the apes inoculated with pure cultures of B. pertussis or whole sputum from cases, developed typical pertussis. However, results in apes inoculated with filtrates from human cases were inconclusive and are open to 2 interpretations: that the catarrhal affections represented the action of a hitherto unrecognized filterable virus acting as the primary infecting agent, or that the catarrhal affections were coryza and that the authors were dealing with pertussis cases which were also carriers of the virus of coryza. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
