Abstract
An actuator for optical recorder applications is described in which the objective lens is electromagnetically suspended in a configuration of magnetic coils, free from mechanical contact. The coil configuration is such that the lens can be driven in five degrees of freedom. An optical strategy has been devised to generate the necessary error signals for servo control. Keywords
