Abstract
Effects of freeze-dried shoot and fresh root-soil materials from several tussock grassland species on the germination of seed of white clover, red clover, lucerne, lotus, browntop, chewings fescue, and cocksfoot were compared. Most materials markedly depressed germination of grass seed, but promoted or depressed germination of legume seed. Raoulia spp. promoted germination most, and Trifolium spp., Anthoxanthum odoratum, and Poa laevis depressed germination most.
