Abstract
Seventy-three plastic containers of aquarium fish [potential carriers of human pathogens] and accompanying water from Taiwan, Singapore, Bangkok [Thailand] and Hong Kong were studied to determine bacterial flora. Of the bags of fish, 69% contained individuals with bacteremias. When tissue suspensions of fish were examined 18 genera of bacteria were noted. Fourteen genera were associated with the shipping water. In each case the 2 predominating organisms encountered were Pseudomonas sp. (not P. aeruginosa) and Aeromonas hydrophila complex. Other organisms found included Citrobacter, Proteus, Escherichia, Micrococcus, Mycobacterium, and Flavobacterium. Mycoplasms were not recovered. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
