Reorientation Measurement in 56Fe

Abstract
The reorientation effect in Coulomb excitation has been used to measure the static quadrupole moment of the first 2+ level of 56Fe. Using beams of 4He and 16O on thin highly enriched targets and observing the spectrum of scattered particles in semiconductor detectors, we have obtained directly the ratios of inelastic to elastic cross sections. The measurements give The ambiguity arises from uncertainty in the relative signs of interfering matrix elements. For the case of He scattering, DWBA calculations were carried out to check the energy region where nuclear interaction begins to appear.
