Abstract
Excavations of the Boquete Rock Shelter, Minas Gérais, Brazil. The autor presents the preliminary results of the excavation of the Boquete Rock Shelter located in Rio Peruaçu Valley, in Northern Minas Gérais. The dig has permitted to define a sequence of nine levels, some of which are rich in archaeological remains. Level VIII contains a rich lithic industry, numerous alimentary remains, and large hearth structures — many ash traces covering a heavy concentration of carbonized wood. This level has been dated 9000-10000 B.C. The paintings on the rock face belong to serveral rock-art traditions, mostly to the « São Francisco » tradition.
