Abstract
Comparative susceptibility of apricot and almond varieties to brown rot due to Monilinia laxa (Aderh. & Ruhl.) Honey was determined by inoculating longitudinal slits 2 cm long on selected branch cuttings with M. laxa conidia. After 3 weeks the resulting cankers were measured. The resistance ratings obtained were closely correlated with ratings obtained from observations made during the past several years in Tunisian orchards. This method, applied to apricot hybrids, suggests that the resistance is polygenic and that the ‘Hamidi’ variety of apricots is a good source of resistance. Keywords
