Abstract
In the fall of 1971, the Bulletin published a series of 28 articles under the general title, “The Energy Crisis.” They were statements of diverse opinion on the nature of the crisis and on methods of resolving it. In the view of Hannes Alfven, the Bulletin's “Energy Crisis” has set the stage for a continuing discussion of the energy problem and the future of mankind. In this article, Professor Alfven contributes to such a discussion by summarizing the issues and suggesting a program of action. He is a member of the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and Professor of Physics at the University of California, San Diego. In 1970, he shared the Nobel Prize in physics with Louis Neel of France. Keywords
