Abstract
Several morphological features and physiological responses in cotton cotyledons were changed by removing the apical and axillary buds. Compared with cotyledons of intact plants, the cotyledons of debudded plants were larger in area and fresh weight, contained more chlorophyll per unit area, and showed a higher rate of respiration. The prominent changes caused by debudding were a significant increase in the life span of the cotyledon and a different pattern of aging and death.
