Abstract
The 16S ribosomal RNA from 10 species of methanogenic bacteria [Methanobacterium spp., Methanosarcina barkeri, Methanospirillum arbophilum] were characterized in terms of the oligonucleotides produced by T1 RNase digestion. Comparative analysis of these data reveals the methanogens to constitute a distinct phylogenetic group containing 2 major divisions. These organisms appear to be only distantly related to typical bacteria. This publication has 20 references indexed in Scilit:
