Abstract
Employment barriers exist for the Traumatic Brain Injury population due to the complexity of the various cognitive and behavioral issues associated with brain injury. Common cognitive concerns include learning and memory, attention and concentration, executive functioning and lack of awareness of these deficits (Prigatano, 1986). These difficulties are particularly significant for persons in professional and technical occupations, where higher level cognitive skills are necessary for job performance. Various areas of consideration in these positions include planning, organizing, prioritizing, and adapting to daily changes of job responsibilities. Individual job coaching in conjunction with an interdisciplinary team has proven to be the most effective approach in returning these individuals to employment. The job coaching model and process will be discussed through a case presentation and several examples. Keywords
