Abstract
Action learning on a company‐wide basis requires the continuing and determined commitment of the topmost line managers if it is to succeed. Action learning as an approach to management development is now beginning to replace conventional classroom instruction. The International Management Centre from Buckingham (IMCB) is a leader in this field. An outline of its involvement in action learning programmes for British Rail, Dow Corning, DuPont, AIB, Grand Metropolitan and MY Dart is given and its successes and failures described.
